MUSTY ODORS

Musty odors are a gaseous byproduct of mold growth, and you may be smelling and breathing them in daily.

Live spores act like seeds, forming new mold growths when they find the right conditions. They only need a few things to grow and multiply:

Moisture - Moisture keeps them chemically active.

Nutrients - Feed on building materials, fabrics, wood, etc. that are saturated.

Suitable environment - Warm temperature and stagnant air.

Exposure to molds can adversely affect your health by causing allergy symptoms, respiratory difficulties, such as asthma and other ailments. It can damage the structure of your home by causing wood to rot and beams to buckle. The contents of your home are also at risk of being destroyed by mold.

How badly your house becomes infested with mold and musty odors is determined by a number of factors, including air circulation, possible leaks and amount of organic materials present. Depending on the severity of the problem, mold may be found growing on walls, doors, carpeting, clothes, books, and other items. Mold grows in the form of dark or very white spots. In many cases you can't see it, but you can smell it. If your house smells like a musty basement, then molds may be present.

PREVENT SICK HOUSE SYNDROME WITH HUMIDEX

The EPA informs us that 6 out of 10 homes and buildings are “sick” meaning they are hazardous to your health to occupy as a result of airborne pollutants.

Most people spend well over 90% of their time indoors. In which case, indoor air is going to impact our health far more than outdoor air. According to Scientific American, a baby crawling on the floor inhales the equivalent of four cigarettes a day, and is exposed to a multitude of pollutants, as a result of the out gassing of carpets, molds, mildews, fungi, dust mites, etc. Sick House Syndrome occurs in homes with excess moisture and lack of ventilation. Cold damp basements and crawl spaces nuture mold and contaminants which work their way into the upper levels of the home.

Humidex controls moisture and creates ventilation in both basements and crawl spaces. Humidex will create a healthier home environment by improving indoor air quality by expelling gases, toxins, VOC’s and odors. Stagnant air will be replaced by fresh air creating a healthy home and maintain the structural integrity of the home.

Humidex is energy efficient and cost less than $5 per month on your utility bill and is maintenance free.

Stachybotrys or Black Mold

Black Mold - Mold comes in many colors; some have a faint blue tinge, others are green, and you may even see a brown or red mold. The most dreaded mold infestation to face in your home is one of black mold. Black mold (which has a very dark green tinge to it) is not always toxic, but when it is it can cause serious neurological disorders.
Depending on the length of exposure and volume of spores inhaled or ingested, symptoms can manifest as chronic fatigue or headaches, fever, irritation to the eyes, mucous membranes of the mouth, nose and throat, sneezing, rashes, and chronic coughing. In severe cases of exposure or cases exacerbated by allergic reaction, symptoms can be extreme including nausea, vomiting, and bleeding in the lungs and nose.
Health problems related to this mold have been documented in humans and animals since the 1930s
Two cats died under anesthesia in what is believed to be the first documented case of black mold poisoning in pets. The cats had been living in Florida in a water damaged home. During routine dental procedures both cats experienced severe pulmonary hemorrhage and later died. Blood tests confirmed the presence of a toxin produced by Stachybotrys Chartarum " Black Mold", and severe mold contamination was found in the home. According to both the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatricians. In 1994, Cleveland, Ohio public health officials reviewed the deaths of nine infants from pulmonary hemorrhage. In a case-control study comparing other Cleveland infants to those who died, researchers discovered the quantity of black mold was higher in the homes where babies died. Exposure to tobacco smoke together with the mold appeared to increase the risk of pulmonary hemorrhage.
