House Mold Is More Than Just an Eyesore

House mold can be an eyesore if it’s left untouched, but it’s not just the sight of the growing fungus that is the real problem. Mold can make you very sick and prolonged exposure to mold spores can cause asthma, sinus infections, fatigue, headaches, respiratory infections and more.

And what many homeowners don’t realize is that even a small amount of moisture can give mold the perfect place to breed and grow. Without some form of moisture molds simply don’t grow. So if you believe you have mold growing in your home it’s time to take action now instead of waiting.

If your home has been invaded by a large amount of mold (10 or more square feet), it’s a good idea to call a professional mold remediation service who will remove the mold from your home for a specified fee that is based on the amount of damage and the size of your home.

If the mold damage in your home is under 10 square feet, then it’s probably safe to do the mold removal process yourself just as long as you’re not allergic and feel up to it. Before you begin the task at hand however, you’ll need to repair any leaks and remove all freestanding water from the affected area.

Once the necessary repairs have been made, it’s time to remove the fungus using a product manufactured for that specific fungus. Please do not use bleach to remove the mold. Recent studies have shown that bleach doesn’t absorb below the surface areas where mold tends to hide. And of course bleaching is not good for our lungs or the environment.

And finally, you’ll want to keep those molds from coming back by considering the purchase of a Humidex to help reduce the humidity in your home and keep house mold at bay.
